After the first of the testing sessions in which Hayden enjoyed riding the new Ducati GP12 machine at Sepang, Hayden has decided to undergo surgery on his injured shoulder.
Whilst riding he was suffering with lack of strength which made riding difficult for him. He only managed a limited number of laps before handing the bike over to a Ducati test rider, Franco Battaini.
Hayden Went Straight to the Clinic
Straight after the three day testing session, of which he managed 93 laps of the Sepang circuit, he travelled directly to Fremont, California for a thorough examination at Doctor Arthur Ting’s clinic.
Once at the clinic he has undergone tests the results of which have shown that Hayden has damaged cartilage in his shoulder as well as injuring muscles in his back. He is scheduled for the surgery tomorrow and will hopefully be at the Sepang circuit again at the end of the month for the next testing session.
Nicky said:
“Of course another operation before the season is never a good thing. But I’m actually happy that I tried to ride at Malaysia, because it helped me discover that the problem with the shoulder was bigger than we thought. After seeing the scans, it was clear why I couldn’t ride well. Setbacks are a part of life and a part of MotoGP, so we’ll deal with it and do everything possible to get back on the bike in good condition as soon as possible. Ducati and the team are putting maximum effort into this championship, and that helps me to keep my spirits high and to be confident heading into the season.”
Clearly he will be striving hard to be near the sharp end once he is fit enough. Rossi showed, at the first test, that the Duacti will be competitive during the season.
