MotoGP Testing Session in Sepang, Malaysia

MotoGP rider Dovizioso on track in Sepang

The first MotoGP testing session seems to have come to a close in Sepang for a break while the teams digest the data that they have collected. 17 of the riders are in attendance with three of them being CRT entries.

Weather Conditions on Track

Early on saw a damp track and everyone except Stoner hit the tarmac. Jorge Lorenzo on the new YZR-M1 set the fastest lap, 2:02.406. Rossi, riding the much anticipated GP12 was lapping four tenths behind the young Mallorcan rider with Spies behind him.

The San Carlo Honda Gresini Team rider Alvaro Bautista got his long awaited ride of the 1000cc Honda and posted times that saw him down in fifth. Cal Crutchlow was the next best satellite rider on his Tech 3 Yamaha.

MotoGP Honda Racing Team

The first of the Honda Factory Racing Team, Dani Pedrosa, rolled up in sixth. Pedrosa is testing a custom chassis on his RC213V. The Chassis is completely different to that of team mate Stoner, who sat out of the session due to a pulled muscle in his back.

Stoner commented on the machine he will be riding saying that the changes implemented since November are impressive. His machine was taken round the circuit for three laps by test rider Kousuke Akiyoshi.

Hayden’s first impressions of his GP12 came as he navigated his way round the circuit to complete ten laps, his fastest of which was 2:04.665. He was followed by Stefan Bradl on his LCR Honda. Another rider who was recovering from his close season injuries was next, Andrea Dovizioso.

Dovi Taming the Yamaha

Dovizioso is also getting to know the bike too after his switch from Honda to Yamaha after the 2011 MotoGP season came to an end.

Hector Barbera, aboard the Pramac Racing Ducati was marginally quicker than Abraham on his AB Cardion Ducati. Barbera’s time of 2:05.112 was just eight tenths quicker than the Czech’s time. Abraham spent most of the morning setting up his rider position and testing electronics on his GP12.

CRT Early Days

Completing the 17 riders were the CRT entries. Ivan Silva and replacement rider, Jordi Torres, of the Avintia Racing Team lapped quicker than Colin Edwards who had been having issues with his electronics in the BMW Suter CRT bike.
